This whole week we have been thinking about food because it is the second of the five key essentials, and next to air, it’s one of the most important things in life. Food is not only important for keeping our bodies moving, we use food as a way to connect with each other. Food made a very important connection in the Bible in 1 Samuel 25:18 “Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs.” When Abigail heard that her husband Nabal had offended David and that now he was planning to bring pain to her household, she knew just what to do. Take food for a peace offering; and it worked.
This meal was a bridge for conversation and the means to save lives. Even our everyday meals can lead to other things. Before Joe and I where dating we would go out to eat every weekend with a group of friends, so you could say we found love over the restaurant menu. Food played a major part in so many of my fond memories of dating and getting to know Joe, because those fun casual eating experiences let us get to know one another, and plan our future together. That is the very reason people associate food with love, and have even given it a name, comfort food.
The problem with all that fun and food is the same for most of us it can sometimes lead to excess eating. The Daniel Plan is not meant to be a diet plan but a get Healthy plan, not a stop eating plan either, but a plan to put our lives in balance with what God has intended for us all along. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 states "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price." As we have discussed before we are the temple of the Lord here on earth, and what we do with this temple is a direct reflection of what we are prepared to do for Christ. Even how much energy and physical health we have to get out there to do the work of spreading the gospel is a direct correlation to the food we consume.
In the next few days I will share with you some of the great information that I have been learning from the Daniel Plan book about what foods we need to help us feel better, and what foods work against us. Some of it we already know but just don’t want to face the truth about it, and I am right there with each of you, living in the land of denial and I don’t mean the river in Egypt! Just this week I had to take a few days off because I ended up in the emergency room with terrible stomach pain; the diagnosis, I am having trouble with my gallbladder. What I don’t know for sure, is it too late to repair myself, or am I going to have to have surgery. This truly is my wake up call, and the Daniel Plan could not have come a better time. God’s timing is the best, and I know without a doubt that He made sure I would be right here to do this with all of you, right when I would need and would respond the most!
I hope with all my heart that if God is talking to you through me and you are ready to make the changes that you need to make, to have that healthier lifestyle, you will join us this Wednesday at 2:30 it could be just what you have been waiting for.
Prayer of the Day
“Dear Father, thank You for giving us food to enjoy and nourish our bodies. Please forgive us for the many times we have misused our bodies and our health due to an unhealthy diet. Help us follow your health plan for the glory of God. In Jesus’name. Amen”
