Tomorrow is the first meeting of our Daniel Day’s and I cannot wait, even though I am a little nervous. My plan for these posts has been to set up a base, sort of a warm up, for the weeks to come. As you could guess I really have very little personal experience with organized sports, other than swimming, but I do know that instructors stress the importance of warming up before doing a sports activity. We may not be splitting up into teams and looking to win a trophy, but we are going to be running a race. A race for our lives and the prize at the end is way better than any trophy!
The end will look different for each one of us, for me losing those extra pounds should help me be able to use my crutches more often; help me look and feel more energized, and most importantly extend my life. Pastor Warren asked in his book “Can you imagine a future of health? Imagine your body and spirt getting healthy, having better mental clarity, more energy and a happier mood; all with a trimmer and healthier life.” I don’t know about you but I have a pretty active imagination! I am already seeing myself doing more with my kids, for my husband, and for the church. What can you imagine?
During the next few weeks we are going to work together for a shared goal for that life we have been imagining; but the good news is that we are not going it alone, God is in our corner just as if we are prizefighters in the ring. Knowing that God is not only rooting for us, He is right there giving us support and encouragement every step of the way. I’m sure that is why Pastor Warren has us begin our five step approach with “Faith” so that we would never forget even when the going gets tuff, as it says in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” and in Romans 8:31 “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
When I teach Good News club I explain faith to the children by telling them to have faith you must believe in something with your whole heart even if you can’t see it, or feel it. You may not see or feel God moving in your life, but think about what got you here today. Pastor Warren said “If you haven’t opened your heart to the love and power of our Lord, I urge you to do so now. It is the healthiest choice you can make.” So have you asked God to be a part of this wonderful new journey we are going on?
Zig Ziglar was quoted as saying “Others can stop you temporarily – you are the only one who can stop you permanently.” Left to our own we will always pick the road of least resistance. That is why we need God to shore up our resolve. In my own life during this past week I have felt God step in to help me stop the cravings, and make better choices. Today I plan to check my weight and take a few measurements so I have a baseline to start from, I hope you will too.
Even though we may consider that we are in a race, it is not against each other, but with ourselves, so set some goals and get ready for the run of your life!
A Prayer for Today
"Father, come to us today to give us your support. We put our complete faith in You Lord, because we cannot do this alone. Help us to become what we have so far only imagined for our health. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen."
